Forest run-off from the Phetchabun Mountain Range in Phichit’s Chon Dan district inundated 60 homes in the downstream Dong Charoen district’s Tambon Huai Pook on Thursday.

The torrential run-off poured into Khlong Boraphet, eroding a four-metre-long section of canal bank before sending floodwater to canal-side homes in Ban Dai Leuk Moo 6 and Moo 8.

Suddenly finding their homes in one-metre-deep water, residents moved their belongings to higher ground in panic. But many items could not be saved in time.

Villager Wiroj Wongkhao said the flood came so fast and violent that he couldn’t save many belonging such as mattresses and a fridge.

District officials had delivered some flood relief bags, with necessary commodity items and drinking water, to the flood-hit residents, while other officials inspected the damage to homes and farmlands to request for more aid.
